Mother’s Day is just around the corner and you still haven’t gotten anything for mom? And what do you think she would have to say about that? Hm? Well let’s just hope she doesn’t find out. Lucky for you there is still time! Here at the nursery we have hundreds of plants, garden decor, and many more items that mom will love! Big, beautiful florist hydrangeas make great houseplants and can be planted outdoors when the bloom finishes. And if she has already planted every flower, bush, or tree you can think of, then get her a statue or fountain to complete her garden! Gift cards are also a great way to let mom pick out exactly what she wants, but you had better put it in a really sweet Hallmark card! Whatever you decide to get your mom for Mother’s Day this year, hurry in soon! Because you know you mom would tell you “Never put off until tomorrow what could be done today.”!

We’ve got some delicious

We’ve received a great deal on some mixed containers here at Andy’s recently, and now we are passing the savings onto you! Because these containers are
planted before we purchase them, they are already filled in and looking beautiful! Another great advantage is that they are actually more affordable than if you were to plant the container yourself! These plant mixes are specifically chosen to look amazing together as they grow. Petunias spill over the edge, while calibrachoa mounds into a mass of blooms and spike grass waves lazily overhead. These containers are a great value and make excellent gifts for mother’s day.
Sallie Lee of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System will be instructing a class on raised bed gardening! Also known for her Al.com blog “Garden Talk”, Sallie is a respected expert in her field. She will walk us step by step through planting and care of vegetables and flowers grown in raised beds. Whether your plant killing skills are the stuff of legend or you are a master gardener, you can learn something new and talk with other growers from your area. This free event will start Saturday, April 14 at 10:00 AM.

The weather is warming, and we are getting in more new stock each day. Flats of Marigolds, Begonias, Petunias Celosia, Impatiens & others are already here! Beautiful hanging baskets are also being delivered daily! Come to Andy’s and get a jump start on your Spring!
Hundreds of new pottery and container items are in stock now! Container gardening is an excellent way to maintain beautiful plants in a small space, or to accent otherwise bare areas such as patios or doorsteps. By using tall, thin plants (thrillers), medium sized, full plants (fillers), and trailing or creeping plants (spillers) you can create professional quality mixed containers that will really impress! Planting into pots is also a great way to keep an herb or vegetable garden in places where you otherwise may not be able to. And with our dazzling selection of dozens of styles you can be sure you will find a container that you love! And from now until Sunday, use the included coupon to receive 25% off any container purchases!

Both our Vestavia Farm Market on Rocky Ridge Road and our Hoover location on Highway 150 are now open for the 2012 season. A few of Alabama’s crops are available at this time and we will continue to bring you the most local foods available as the season progresses. For now, Florida is producing some delicious strawberries and citrus. Their tender, hand-picked strawberries are second only to those from Chilton County. Honey Tangerines can be peeled in seconds and truly live up to the sweetness implied by their name. Minneolas are an interesting cross-breed of an orange and grapefruit that is perfect for cooking and has a flavor all its own. Of course we are fully stocked with all the vegetables and fruits you could need, but we will also be carrying new products and items this season! Come by soon to see our crisp new look and enjoy the freshest produce available!
Come in anytime before February 11th, 2012 to redeem your earned bonus bucks for up to HALF OFF your entire purchase. These coupons can be used towards absolutely anything at our Vestavia nursery. This includes fountains, trees, decorations, fertilizers, and even bulk products! And if don’t plan on doing any more planting before Spring or can’t think of anything you may need, remember now is a great time to start fighting Summer weeds with pre-emergents!
It’s also time to put down this season’s pre-emergent. Weed fighting products are divided into two categories: Post-emergents and Pre-emergents. Post-emergents fight weeds by killing them on the spot and usually employ stronger chemicals. The mush easier, safer, and more aesthetic option is to control weeds with a pre-emergent which stops them from ever sprouting in the first place. This month’s lawn treatment stops dozens of varieties of weeds, including crabgrass, before they ever become a problem in the spring. Apply now to save time and effort later!
